Wonderwool Treasures

Well, I had to do it now didn't I?
Clockwise from the top. 3 packs of Freyalyn's Firebird recipe on Cheviot, Coloured BFL and Coloured Shetland rovings respectively. 1 Kilo of Shetland DK from Bluefaced, and 2 bricks of dyed Silk from Oliver Twists (no website, what are they thinking of?)
Next, 400gms of Fine Falklands rovings dyed in her Flame recipe from Amanda of Mandacrafts. I just had to really, the last time I had some of this colour it made a fab jacket, and this time I just happen to have bought that matching brick of silk from Oliver Twists... Anyone would think I was planning something.
I know I seem to have taken a bit of a sharp right with the colours, but I felt that it was time I made an effort NOT to be spinning blues, greens and purples for a bit. And I suspect this will help. Although, if you notice, some blues and greens have snuck in from Freyalyn so I suppose I haven't changed that much!

Finished it!

I have been rather busy actually, in between other stuff. Came to the conclusion that If I only have a finite number of Spoons to use in any one day I am going to spend most of it in my workshop unless people turn up, and even then, it's a toss up!. Firstly - look! This is the Falklands/Soy yarn I blogged about last time. It's just sooo pretty, I must admit it will probably hang there for a while, whilst I decide what I want to do with it. Mine all mine tee hee! (200m of plain and 500m of soy mix). It has a fabulous lustre to it and what I will do with it I'm really not sure. Yet. Then there is the Texel x Shetland/angora that I had on my wheel last time I blogged. This has been finished now (Told you I had been spending time in my workshop!). After looking at the singles for a bit, I decided that wasn't going to be sufficient for #1Sons sweater, so I also spun up a couple of hundred grams of Freyalyn's hand dyed rovings in various blues. Then I plyed them all together I am rather pleased with the overall marled effect and most important of all #1Son has announce himself satisfied. Which to be honest is the most important thing. I felt that this was the time to take advantage of the ratio/head that is at the moment on my Suzy and spin some more DK, so here it is! About a year ago (yikes!) I dyed up these grey Masham rovings (582gms). The picture doesn't really do them justice as there are some dark electric blues and rich purples in there - promise! So here they are on the bobbin and really quite sexy they look too, with pleanty of lustre. They are being spun on a 6:8 ratio and seem to be whizzing through at the moment. Although, ask me again in a day or two.!

Helloo, I'm Back....

Been busy in the real world (I know, pathetic excuse, but it's all I've got.) Before you groan, as I managed to find the camera, I've popped loads of photos in, if you click on them, they get REALLY BIG! I have managed to get down to my Workshop most days recently and to my surprise, stuff is really beginning to mount up - hurrah! Last time I blogged, the soy and Falklands was looking like this (See, did take pictures!). Now, it looks like this - yay! go me! All 545m of the soy/Falklands marle and another 200m of Falklands that was left over.It really was no wonder that it took so long to spin! But it really is fabulously soft and snuggy. I shall wash and block and leave it hanging there to admire for a bit, whilst I work out just what I intend to do with it... So, I have finally started on the next lot of spinning. This has bee sitting staring reproachfully at me for months now, but when I opened the placcy box to start it I forgave every glance! it's about 400gms of really yummy Shetland/Texel blended with Angora that my dear friend and professional heroine (to me anyway!) Freya sent me. It is spinning up just so quickly and smoothly. I'm aiming for DK weight, so I've swapped the head on my Majacraft Suzy for the one with the wool whorl on it and started on a 4.5:1 ratio, but it was just too slow, so I have settled on 6.3:1, same thickness of single, but far less effort involved! Its come up just dandy and quick too. (I love instant results me. Something to do with total lack of energy I suspect.) Think I may just ply it with a small bump of Hand dyed English tops in blues I just happen to have lying about. And to top it off, I took a managerial decision and used up the rest of my Noro Silk Garden Yarn. Quickly, before I came over all peculiar and tried knitting some more squares. (Stranger things have happened, I still need a tea cosy...). So, #1Son lost his fingerless gloves on the way back from swimming some time ago, so I whipped him up these, he seems pleased, although I have heard mutterings of trying to make him look like Popeye. It's not my fault the boy needs to put some muscle on now is it. After all I feed him, pretty much all the time...
