Well, whilst I can think about it and type at the same time,
After finishing the BFL, and silk I was going to go for a total change, but somehow it just hasn't happened, ah well. Instead, a lovely friend of mine (Carotrike from Rav) was kind enough to give me some of Freyalyn's space-dyed BFL - beats a stick of rock any day of the week I say!
As you can see, the colours were lovely (they came from Freya, of course they were I hear you squawk!). but there was only about 50gms. So, leaving my wheel set on 16:1, I spun it Long draw. It is now sitting (and has been for the last 5 or 6 days or so) on it's bobbin settling as I don't intend to ply it. Pictures will be forthcoming, but battery gone phut on camera!
I have now settled down to spin this for a couple of days
It is 5 lovely 100gm bumps of BFL and some sort of sparkly stuff that I pick up a couple of months back and Freyalyn was generous enough to dye some of for me on it's way past her door. More of this and pix of the other next time!
On posting due to being held up by really pathetic lungs! It's been raining. - No Laughing! as a result, my totally usless lungs decided to ignore the essentials (you know, the whole breathing thing) for a while and catch a cold on top! So several days without being able to string a sentence together ensued.
Now then, where was I?
Ah yes, the great silk brick mix. As you can see, it has turned out very well, quite pleasing actually. what is interesting, is that although, both the BFL rovings, and the Silk Bricks were spun and plied one after the other and with the same ratio (16:1), upon the same wheel (Majacraft Suzie), I have ended up with a significant difference in the thickness and length of the hanks. Mirkwood, [200gms BFL and 120gms Silk Brick] above yielded 490m of marled yarn and a further 59m of BFL plied to itself whilst the Redleaf [200gms BFL and 131gms Silk Brick] (below) yeilded 501.5m of Marled and 109.4m of self plied respectively. The Mirkwood is slightly thicker with more loft than the Red Leaf. But both are yummy and I am looking forward to C/O a pair of similar waistcoats/vests with the yarn,
I have been quite busy on the spinning front (as I blogged previously). But due to a brain fog moment, finished yarn has take longer than threatened!
It was like this, as I wanted a marled yarn, I began with 100gms of Mirkwood BFL dyed by Freyalyn and, as promised, moved on to the Oliver Twist silk brick to go with it. I had Two silk bricks as you can see. The one with the blues and greens in (which is destined for the Mirkwood) and one with autumn browns and reds -to go with the next project which involving 100gms of Redleaf (thank you Freya).
So I picked up the wrong one. So I didn't notice until I was half way through it. So it could happen to anyone. Ok, it couldn't. Bloody brain fog! At this point I was left with a full bobbin of Mirkwood BFl and a bobbin of Autumn silk. Choice. Either spin more silk or spin the Red Leaf. I chose the Red leaf. It's quicker. No, really it is. Not by much I'll grant you, but....
Voila! I really am pleased with this. I suspect there is enough here for a generous waistcoat possibly with sleeves. Maybe.
So. I'll blog again once I've plyed the original silk, which oddly I happen to be spinning at the moment, with the Mirkwood which is sitting patiently upon it's bobbin.
