The Rule of the Fleece (Those of a non-fibre disposition, look away now.).

Now, I know I tend to write of nothing but fibre, this is a little different. On several occasions over the last month or so I've been asked how I choose/what do I look for when I pick a fleece. So here goes. Here are my general rules that I apply to fleece,( Although I must take this opportunity to point out other people look for other things and whilst this works for me, it may not work for the next spinner! ) The general thi ngs I look for in a fleece are as follows: Firstly, it must hold together (see right) as rolled. Then, if I can unroll it and flick it out like a tablecloth being flicked over a table. It should remain as a whole, albeit a somewhat lacy whole. This shows me several things, the most important being the health of the animal it came from. If the animal is in top nick, it's fleece will also be in good condition (bit like the difference in the way way your own hair behaves if you have a cold or if you are feeling ...

I have been busy - honest!

I have been really busy knitting and it's beginning to pay off! Hooray for me!! And as 2 out of my 3 projects on the go are for me it really is for a change!! First off is the Northern Lights Project. This jacket is coming together really nicely, the body is finished in yummy soft stripes ( OK , possibly not the best choice for a personage of my proportions , but I like it!!) Before knitting the arms, I have taken it into my head to knit the hood - yep! A huge in proportion pixie hood with a large green tassel on the end and possibly matching tassels on braids at the from to finish it orf - haven't decided yet, it may depend on the amount of yarn left over. I have sufficient cherry alpaca to line the visible parts of the inside of the hood so that is cool. And the Noro domino shrug is turning out really nicely too (can you spot the obvious mistake?). I love the way Noro lends itself to this sort of project, with the colour changes just fitting the size of...

Burnham on Sea, 7 July 2012 For some time now I've been looking at what I do and wondering whether I am going in the right direction (or any direction at all for that matter). I love my spinning, and I have to knit. A lot. Or bad things really do happen. I also love my weaving. Having said that, my loom is rebelling at the moment, so probably less said the better. But I really do want to be able to find a goal and achieve it. Not for anyone else, just for me. So. I had a good consider of what I do and what I wanted to do and decided that the first thing I would like do would be to sort out the workshop. With the help of friends, this has happened, I'm now sufficiently organised I can get to my sewing machine. This in turn brought me to my second goal.
